To equalise the much complained about gender gap in wages requires a matching of male and female patterns. Complaining about, for instance, a lack of women in STEM, holds that a failure to match male and female patterns is a lack of female progress. There is the justificatory reconstruction and then there is the pattern of actual advocacy. I am referring to the latter. As for the lower prestige point, if an occupation has a flood of new people in it, the increased supply of applicants will tend to drive down its income and status. Conversely, those who have a higher burden of provision will tend to shift to higher income occupations. Income and status tends to follow supply and demand.
